Prosafe’s Flotel Safe Boreas Starts Talisman Job

Prosafe, an owner and operator of semi-sub accommodation rigs, has agreed with Talisman Sinopec Energy UK to provide one of its units for operations in the UK North Sea.

Prosafe is providing its 2015-built Safe Boreas, for the entire firm period of over eight months plus options.

According to the company, the Safe Boreas started operations at Montrose A in the North Sea in mid-March 2016, and will also gangway connect to Montrose BLP throughout the contract duration. Total value of the firm hire duration is approximately $60 million.

Prosafe initially agreed with Talisman to provide its newbuild flotel Safe Notos for the oil company’s operations in the North Sea involving an initial short period using its sister rig the Safe Zephyrus until Safe Notos arrives in the North Sea from China-based Cosco shipyard. However, although Safe Zephyrus was delivered at the end of January, and Safe Notos in February 2016, neither of the accommodation rigs have arrived to its owner.

According to Marine Traffic, Safe Zephyrus is currently in transit offshore South Africa, and Safe Notos is offshore China.

On the other hand, Prosafe’s Safe Boreas, that previously worked for the oil company Lundin at the Edvard Grieg Project in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, was available for some work.

Safe Boreas was built at Jurong Shipyard in Singapore, and is constructed according to the GVA 3000E design and is equipped with a DP3 (dynamic positioning) system as well as 12 point mooring arrangement.

Safe Boreas has been granted the Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authorities (PSA) allowing the vessel to operate in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

The vessel has the capacity to accommodate 450 persons in single man cabins.

Prosafe also informed that the company’s recently converted tender support vessel Safe Scandinavia started its contract with Statoil at the Oseberg Øst installation, offshore Norway.
